An Israeli official has told the media that the commander of the naval forces of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, Alireza Tangsiri, was killed during an air strike in the port city of Bandar Abbas.
According to the same source, cited by The Times of Israel, Tangsiri was considered responsible for blocking the Strait of Hormuz, one of the most important points for global oil transportation.
So far, there has been no official reaction from Iranian authorities or the Israeli military regarding this attack.
Tehran has since responded with drone and missile strikes across the region, including attacks on neighboring Gulf countries that say they are neither involved in the conflict nor have allowed their territory to be used to launch attacks.
Iran has also maintained complete control over the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic waterway through which a fifth of the world's oil is transported.
