Chief Inspector General, Dashnor Sula, has revealed that a senior Socialist Party official had asked him to appoint his son as director. During an interview with Top News, he also made public the voice message he had received from Prime Minister Edi Rama, after he had informed him of this intervention.
"No, this guy's son, no, that guy's son. What are these conversations? Don't listen to them at all," Rama is heard saying in the message to Sula.
Sula presented this response as evidence of the prime minister's stance against nepotistic hiring, stating that he has always been principled on this issue. To convince us, he even brought proof: Rama himself, who said that interference should not be listened to.
However, his account leaves a question: why did the prime minister have to be asked about a job request from a party leader?
Seeking to show how strongly Rama opposes nepotism, Sula left it unclear why he had not closed this conversation himself. Because from the way he narrated it, the impression is created that the obstacle for the official's son was the prime minister's response.
In this story, meritocracy seemed to have the answer. To be sure, Rama was also asked.
