The forced escorting of two activists, Edison Lika and Dritan Goxhaj, has caused violent clashes between protesters and police this Wednesday evening in front of the Prime Minister's Office. The incident began after officers fined the two activists for holding a rally considered illegal. Lika and Goxhaj refused to accept the fines, while the police intervened to forcibly escort them.
This action provoked a reaction from protesters, who tried to prevent the police van from leaving. A group of girls, helped by boys, created a human "fence" in front of the police vehicle, in an attempt to stop the two activists from leaving. The situation escalated into physical clashes between protesters and officers, with the police also using pepper spray.
As a result, some girls had health concerns and ended up in the ambulance, where they received the necessary medical assistance. The tense episodes were recorded on the "Martyrs of the Nation" boulevard, in front of the Prime Minister's Office building.
After escorting Lika and Goxhaj, the protest moved to the Local Police Directorate in Tirana. Students and citizens demand the release of the two activists, while continuing the rally in front of the institution where they were escorted.
