Ship transits through the Strait of Hormuz fell to just 7 on Wednesday, down from 12 recorded the day before, according to preliminary ship tracking data.
The figure is also significantly lower than the average of the last 10 days, which is 14 crossings per day.
According to the data, of the 7 registered ships, 4 left the strait, while 3 entered it. However, the real number may be higher, as some ships may have sailed with their transponders turned off and are therefore not included in this data.
Among the ships that left Hormuz was the very large crude oil carrier Finland Prosperity, which was carrying about 2 million barrels of oil.
Meanwhile, no tankers carrying liquefied natural gas were recorded leaving the Strait of Hormuz.
At another strategic shipping point, the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, about 28 cargo ships passed through on Wednesday. That was close to the average of 27 ships per day over the past 10 days. Of the total, 16 ships entered the strait, while 12 left.
