Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, one of the most far-right figures in Benjamin Netanyahu's government, has stated that he has been informed of a request from the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague to issue an arrest warrant against him.
In November 2024, the ICC issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, on charges of “crimes against humanity and war crimes” during the Israeli offensive in Gaza.
Following the verdict against Israeli leaders, ICC judges and prosecutors have reportedly faced severe financial and technological consequences after the Trump administration imposed sanctions on the court. As a result, several banks, credit card companies, and tech giants like Amazon have cut off services to ICC officials.
The court had also issued arrest warrants for several Hamas leaders, who were later killed during Israeli military operations.
