Israel announced today (May 16) that it is continuing operations against Hezbollah and carried out new attacks in southern Lebanon, after ordering the residents of nine villages to evacuate.
This, despite the month-and-a-half extension of the ceasefire reached during negotiations between the two countries in Washington on Friday.
"Israeli defense forces began striking Hezbollah infrastructure in several areas of southern Lebanon," the Israeli military said in a statement.
Lebanon's national news agency, ANI, reported airstrikes on at least five villages in southern Lebanon, as well as a wave of residents fleeing towards Sidon, the main city in southern Lebanon, and Beirut. There were also reports of at least three deaths.
The Israeli army had previously ordered residents of nine villages in the Sidon and Nabatiyeh regions to evacuate.
